A Little Over 2,000 Years Ago…
a group of men and women encountered and walked with Jesus in the midst of their everyday lives. This was just the start of Jesus changing the world. Through Jesus, they experienced God’s amazing love and began growing in community with Him and with one another. They went on to share the hope of Jesus around the world in a movement that has lasted throughout the centuries.
At Southall Church, we continue to carry the banner in this journey. Our mission is simple yet profound.
To follow Jesus, become like Jesus, and live as Jesus lived.
Our Mission
Follow Jesus
As we encounter Jesus, His first invitation is for us to be with Him. Therefore, we aim to know Him and be known by Him, to love Him and be loved by Him.
Become Like Jesus
As we follow Him, He changes us to become like Him. Therefore, we aim to grow in relationship with Him and others within the context of biblical community.
Live As Jesus Lived
As we follow and become like Him, we seek to glorify Him in how we live. Therefore, we seek the lost, serve the least, and make disciples of all nations.
Our Values
Centering on The Gospel
The Gospel changes everything. It’s not about what we must do, but about everything Jesus has already done. The Gospel has not lost an ounce of relevance or power in 2,000 years. We allow its timeless truth to shape every aspect of life.
Bridging Generations
We find strength in being a multigenerational church. We think beyond our own life stages, extend connections, and build bridges with those younger and older than us. Within these relationships, we invest deeply as we are formed into the image of Christ.
Building Strong Families
We build strong families by pouring into next generation environments, programming, tools, and relationships, so busy families with children of all ages grow in Christ. We invest deeply in families as they navigate the different stages of marriage and parenting.
Living Beyond Ourselves
Jesus has given us a mission far bigger than ourselves. We give generously, love sacrificially, and invest deeply in the mission of Jesus to seek and save the lost, to make disciples of all nations, and to bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Essential Beliefs
In essential beliefs, we uphold unity.
In non-essential beliefs, we practice liberty. In all our beliefs, we show love.
God
GENESIS 1:1,26–27; 3:22; PSALM 90:2; MATTHEW 28:19; 1 PETER 1:2; 2 CORINTHIANS 13:14
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three distinct persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Jesus Christ
MATTHEW 1:22–23; ISAIAH 9:6; JOHN 1:1–5; 14:10–30; HEBREWS 4:14–15; 1 CORINTHIANS 15:3–4; ROMANS 1:3–4; ACTS 1:9–11; 1 TIMOTHY 6:14–15; TITUS 2:13
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
Holy Spirit
2 CORINTHIANS 3:17; JOHN 16:7–13; 14:16, 17; ACTS 1:8; 1 CORINTHIANS 2:12, 3:16; EPHESIANS 1:13; GALATIANS 5:25; EPHESIANS 5:18
The Holy Spirit is a Person distinct from the Father and the Son and possessing all of the divine attributes. He exalts Christ, convicts people of sin, enlightens, gifts, and empowers believers and the church in life and godliness.
The Bible
2 TIMOTHY 3:16; 2 PETER 1:20–21; 2 TIMOTHY 1:13; PSALM 119:105, 160; 12:6; PROVERBS 30:5
The scriptures of the Old and New Testament are inspired by God. Scripture is the supreme and final authority in faith and life. Scripture is useful to believers for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.
People
GENESIS 1:27; PSALM 8:3–6; ISAIAH 53:6A; ROMANS 3:23; ISAIAH 59:1–2
People are made in the image of God and thus endowed with intrinsic value. Therefore, we believe in promoting respect for and protecting the worth and dignity of every individual human being born or unborn. All of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience towards God called “sin.” This attitude separates us from right relationship with God and others.
Marriage
GENESIS 2:24
We believe the only biblical standard for marriage is between one biological man and one biological woman. God created sexual intimacy as a sacred act to be celebrated within the confines of biblical marriage. Sexual relations of any sort outside of biblical marriage is sin.
Salvation
ROMANS 6:23; EPHESIANS 2:8, 9; JOHN 14:6, 1:12; TITUS 3:5
Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by good works or self-improvement. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from sin’s penalty. We are saved when we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
Eternity
JOHN 3:16; JOHN 14:17; ROMANS 6:23; ROMANS 8:17–18; REVELATION 20:15; 1 CORINTHIANS 2:7–9
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in Heaven.
